April Last

Previous post was on April first. And this one is on April last.
Hence the title.
I have been busy like crazy over the past month, but I am proud to announce, I have finished firs pass on design and placement of the art in the entire "Vessel" Game.
Last few levels have actually reached level of finish, visual appeal and complexity we are aiming for so all that needs to be done now is to bring the rest of the game up there.
But that's why there's second art pass.
Stuff that remains is the hub world, game interface and animation of the main character and all the little critters.
I started working on animations and it is looking very promising.
Bottom line is I like the game, and that is something I always wanted.
We are still months from wrapping up so it should all look spiffy and sweet by the end.
Anyhow.
I do not have much time as I have to get back to it.
There's some images below so I will talk about them a little.
From top down, first is Rosie Rocket, and that character design is a funny story.
Another day I was drinking some grape juice and I unwittingly spilled some on the tiled floor of my studio.
I forgot all about it and I stepped into it a couple of times as well as rolled my chair over it.
At some point late that evening, I looked at the stain and it looked to me like a woman with rockets flying out of her hair.
I thought it was really cool, but since I have tendency to forget a lot of stuff, and my wife has a tendency to clean my studio early in the morning, I decided to do a quick sketch to remind me of the whole thing.
next day I cleaned up that sketch a little, and threw in a bit of color at it, and the end result is Rosie.
She could be whatever, I don't know.
I also like my initial sketch muuch more than this quick clean pass, but stuff it, I might try to do something with it later.
But most likely, I will never come back to it.
Second sketch is just a bit of morning warm up I decided to share. Some Cowboys or whatnot.
And the final sketch is first pass on more detail art for my big "puzzle" piece- Attack on the Keep.
That one will probably take a while to finish, as I keep on sketching these squirmish situations and stuff.
So that it is for this time,

See you in May,

Cheers,

Milenko

About Princesses and Unicorns

Eh, many days have passed.
It is Fool's day today, and what a fool's day it is :)
First thing someone may have noticed is that I did not do a Frazetta tribute last month.
I will try to do one in april, but truth to be told, I could not find many more frazetta paintings featuring women I would like to draw.
Well, there's still a few but they are not as iconic as would be sufficient to tickle my inspiration.
Don't get me wrong, I love frazetta, I am just not too much into muscly barbarians and stuff.
Anyhow.Another thing that happened lately is that I have unwittingly depleted my savings by purchasing a fine automobile I could not afford.
I think that mid life crisis has gotten the better of me.
Vehicle in mention is a Holden Monaro, known over in the states as Pontiac GTO or something.
It was too pretty to resist, and is younger than my children, so I count it as the newest car I ever had.Much like a beautiful woman, it has cost too much to acquire and it is incredibly high on maintenance as well as in it's daily spending.
It is really unnerving to see a counter telling you how much petrol you have spent so far in your trip, and it is always muuch more than you would want to.
Now I know that a run to the local store to purchase some tobacco based products in itself costs me about 3 bucks.
But then again, much like a beautiful woman ( which my wife truly is- just for the record) joys it provides make you easily forget the rest of your trouble, and you realize that the only way to deal with it is to work harder and make enough dough to keep it happy.
Which brings me to the image in this post.
Little bits and bobs of freelance work I was getting over the last few months to compliment my income have seriously dried up and it seems no one wants Milenko any more :)
So, I decided to try and crack into the field of educational/ instructional illustration.
The image I am displaying here was created to demonstrate my skill and to illustrate dangers that little girls might face if they are in possession of a unicorn.
Now, it was not intended to scare them away from the purchase, just to draw their attention to the pointy extremities such animal would posses.

I know it is a stupid joke, but I never claimed to be the brightest of the lights.
Well, that's it for now,

Cheers to all,
Milenko
